Introduction
Happy moments of birth, slow growth and excitement, accompany the family of the infant who gradually becomes a child, a teenager, and an adult. The wheel continues to turn, and the adult, takes a wife, begets his children, who also grow and evolve, and the wheel of life does not stop for a moment.
The circle of life of your loved one has just ended. Your circle continues on and rolls forward.
You are now in difficult moments and thoughts and feelings disturb your rest and cloud your mind. In these moments you have to think also about yourself and your life and the lives of your remaining family, and you have to continue to roll…
Remember! The Holy One, Blessed be He, does not give you a difficult trial before He has given you the strength to withstand it. The situation is tough, but you have all the ability
to go through it and rise from it and move forward. Do not let feelings of grief overcome you. Also remember your loved one who has passed to his world, he surely wants to see you standing again on your feet and continuing to go about the routine of your life as before.
Hard questions can sometimes resonate in your mind with the death of a dear person
and especially if he was young: why did God take my dear one? Why does a young person who has done so much good in his life go to his world prematurely?
The question is good, but you need to know that you have nothing to expect to understand the ways of the Creator.
So wrote to his family, Rabbi Yehonatan Eybeschutz, when her husband died young:
“Why should the blind man shout at the man leading him that he did not lead him
in straight ways, when after all he is blind and his leader is smart and seeing? Regarding
the Holy One, Blessed be He, we are all like blind people and the Holy One, Blessed be He, sees, observes and looks until the end of all generations, and why should we cry and scream about the death of a person?”.
Judaism accompanies the Jew at every stage of his life, even in the difficult moments
in which you are now. The Jewish rules and the way of behaving at this time have a double importance: both for your loved one who has gone to his world – that your behavior according to the rules of Judaism gives him pleasure and joy, and for you. They will also provide for you an orderly framework for your mourning and sadness, and naturally they will give you a little peace and calm in your difficult days.
The chapter before you is a practical-philosophical guide on the subject of mourning and what is related to it. It contains basic guidance on these topics. If in your surroundings
there is a qualified rabbi and you want to be more meticulous about the laws of mourning, it is worth making contact with him and he will give you more detailed guidance.
Praying for happier days for you, and believing that God will comfort you along with all the people of Israel who mourn the destruction of the holy city of Jerusalem and of the Holy Temple – the center of the Jewish people that was within it, very soon.
