Introduction
Your last stage of mourning after the death of one of your parents is mourning until the end of the first twelve months from their burial day. In these months, only a few mourning rules remain on you.
The reason for this extension is to honor your parents. In the mourning that continues after their death, you reveal your sense of their absence in your heart and increase their honor.
- However, usually at the end of these twelve months, you will find yourself already on the day of death, but there are years in which the Hebrew year lasts 13 months. Even in such years, you finish the period of mourning after 12 months.
In these days there is no:
- Listening to music.
- Going to celebrations. You can go to a friend’s celebration to say congratulations and the like, but not to stay there. In special cases, such as a close family celebration, you should consult with a rabbi.
- Going to entertainments, trips, and the like.
