Shabbat Nachamu
During the seven Shabbatot following Tisha B’Av, we read in the Haftarah the chapters of consolation and hope from the book of Isaiah. From the prophet’s verses, we draw encouragement and strength to continue on our path, to look forward and hope for the end of exile and the coming of the Redeemer, when we will merit to receive true comfort from God Himself. This period is called the “Shiva d’Nechemta,” the Seven Weeks of Consolation.
The first Shabbat, which initiates the series of consolations, is called “Shabbat Nachamu“ (the Sabbath of Consolation), named after the opening words of the Haftarah, “Nachamu Nachamu Ami, ya’amar Elokeichem” (Comfort, comfort My people, says your God).
